Aaron Taylor-Johnson Offered Role of James Bond by EON

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is potentially on the brink of taking up the mantle as the next James Bond.

According to reports emerging on Tuesday, the 33-year-old actor has been presented with the opportunity to portray 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure from the iconic British Secret Service agent role. When contacted by ET, EON, the production company behind the franchise, declined to comment on these reports.

The Sun was the first to break the news about Taylor-Johnson, recognized for his roles in films like Kick-Ass alongside Nicolas Cage and Chloe Grace Moretz, as well as Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The outlet disclosed that production for the 26th Bond film is scheduled to commence later this year.

A source allegedly informed the outlet, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table, and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days, and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

Craig, aged 56, portrayed Bond in five films from 2006 to 2021, stating to ET in 2019 that No Time to Die would mark his final appearance in the franchise. He expressed, “This is going to be my last Bond I think. I think I’ve done enough, people are going to get sick of the sight of me. Someone else should have a go.”

Regarding his successor, Craig mentioned it should be “the right person,” emphasizing that all candidates should be considered.

Following the premiere of No Time to Die amid the COVID-19 pandemic, producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli revealed to ET in 2022 that they were currently focused on commemorating 60 years of the character before addressing casting for future films.

Speculation Surrounding the Next James Bond

Despite the prestige associated with the role, both Wilson and Broccoli acknowledged the immense commitment required from actors, with Broccoli referencing Pierce Brosnan’s remark that “More people have walked on the moon than have played this character.”

Taylor-Johnson is among several names speculated to fill the role post-Craig’s departure, including Theo James, Callum Turner, Regé-Jean Page, Lashana Lynch, and Henry Golding.

In separate interviews with ET, Turner and Lynch responded to rumors about their potential involvement in the franchise. Turner expressed admiration for producer Barbara Broccoli, while Lynch clarified that she had only signed up for one film and had not discussed any potential future appearances as 007.
