The Avatar Fortnite and Avatar Rocket League crossovers
This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them!
It’s understandable for characters from different franchises to make appearances in other media, but rarely has a series made its way into two different games at the same time. But that’s what Avatar The Last Airbender has done since characters and items themed around the series are now available in both Fortnite and Rocket League.
Over in every child’s favorite battle royale, the Elements event has begun and will run from April 12 to May 3. Element benders Zuko, Toph, and Katara are available to purchase in the in-game shop, whereas Aang can only be unlocked by paying for the Premium Rewards Track.
During this time, players can use these characters to finish Element Quests to unlock new cosmetics and level up rewards in the Elements Pass. This also causes a player’s Chi to increase, leading to more rewards from the Elements Pass. Currently, Water Chakra Quests are now live, whereas Earth Chakra Quests will be ready to rumble on April 15, Fire Chakra Quests will be fired up on April 18, and Air Chakra Quests will airdrop on April 22. Light Chakra and Sound Chakra Quests will also light up and sound off on April 25.
All Quest types will be available until May 3 at 2 A.M. ET (all quests will begin at 9 A.M. ET). Anyone who unblocks all Chakra types earns an Appa (Sky Bison) glider. Other items referencing the show include Sokka’s Space Sword and an Air Nomad Staff as pickaxes, a Momo backpack bling, and even an emote that calls back to the Cabbage Seller gag (i.e., where a cabbage seller frequently loses his products because of the main characters).
Meanwhile, in Rocket League, there are new decals based on Aang, Zuko, Toph, Katara, Appa, and the Cabbage Seller (it’s nice that he’s being honored in both games). There’s also an Avatar Elemental Boost, which channels all four elements into your car’s boost. The new items are now available until April 28, 9 A.M. (PT).
What is Avatar the Last Airbender?
In the world of Avatar The Last Airbender, there exists the Avatar, an individual who can bend all four elements (water, earth, fire, and air), while everyone else can only bend one element. Their job is to ensure balance and harmony are kept in the world, including between the four elemental nations.
Every time an Avatar dies, they are reincarnated as a member of another elemental nation. The series protagonist is Aang, a young Avatar and monk who was frozen in ice after running away from his home monastery to shirk his duties. Aang’s departure coincided with the Fire Nation deciding that they didn’t want balance. Instead, they launched attacks on the other three kingdoms to conquer them and ultimately rule over the world.
The series begins a century after Aang flees his home and is discovered by two Water tribe members, Sokka and Katara, who free him. From there, it’s a race against time as Aang needs to master the three other elements before the Fire Nation conquers everything.
So far, the series has had two live-action adaptations, one of which can enrage and/or traumatize fans of the series (I may or may not be joking here). The first is The Last Airbender, a movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan (need I say more?), while the other, an eight-episode season, was produced by Netflix and released earlier this year. The movie is hated by the fanbase and many pretend it doesn’t exist (insert “There is no The Last Airbender movie” meme here), while Rotten Tomatoes ranks the Netflix series at 60% fresh, with the audience score currently sitting at 73%. The series has been renewed for two more seasons.
There’s also a sequel series to Avatar The Last Airbender called The Legend of Korra. It follows Korra, the newest Avatar after Aang’s death, and is set in a semi-modern world. Two Korra skins, as well as quests and items themed around her series, are also available in Fortnite at this time. These aren’t the only times Avatar characters showed up in video games. Back in 2020, Aang, Zuko, and Korra became available as skins for Merlin, Susano, and Skadi, respectively. Toph and Avatar Roku joined the party in 2023 as skins for Scylla and Yu Huang, respectively.
