The year 2024 started with a bang for PlayStation 5 fans as the first State of Play presentation under Sony unveiled a plethora of exciting announcements and gameplay reveals on Wednesday. January 31. From highly anticipated sequels to intriguing newcomers, the show offered a glimpse into the diverse and captivating experiences awaiting gamers on PS5 and PS VR2. This comes after Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event. This includes information about the upcoming Death Stranding sequel, a new free-to-play Silent Hill game, the Until Dawn Remaster and many more upcoming projects.
In the past month, releases like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth have graced Playstation 5. Let’s delve into the key highlights and what Sony has in store for the PlayStation landscape.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Finally Receives Its Official Title
The event swung into action as Kojima Productions inaugurated a trailer for Death Stranding 2. Called ‘On The Beach’, the video features Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile, with plenty of new characters, including one played by Mad Max director George Miller, facing off against a new group called Drawbridge. Aside from this, we also learned that Kojima Productions is also working on a new ‘action espionage game’ and that it will “transcend the barriers between film and video games.” Staying true to Considering Kojima’s traditional style, the video had extraordinarily long cutscenes, including a lengthy sequence with a potential villain using a chainsaw-guitar-hybrid weapon that shoots lightning. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming in 2025.
Hideo Kojima is working on a new ‘Action Espionage’ video game titled ‘PHYSINT’ in collaboration with the South Korean Tech giant. He had explored this genre in his initial work on the original Metal Gear.
Silent Hill: The Short Message and Silent Hill 2 Remake
Konami showed up to the State of Play to reveal Silent Hill: The Short Message, a free-to-play Silent Hill spin-off that will be available to play. He also shared a new trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake project The game seems like a new take on Silent Hill with players facing contemporary problems. However additional details for the remake project such as the release date were not yet provided.
New Trailer for Judas
Set in a dystopian city in space, Ghost Story Games, initially called Irrational Studios, under Kevin Levine, creator of Bioshock also released their brand new upcoming title, Judas. Judas resembles Bioshock in many of its elements including its first-person combat style and a mix of sci-fi elements.
Until Dawn gets a remake
Until Dawn is a much-loved horror franchise, and its remaster is coming back to PS5 and PC under the developer Ballistic Moon. Instead of relying on jump scares or grotesque monsters, the game had a greater focus on narrative and interactions. It was quite similar to another cult classic, Heavy Rain. The remake will be completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and will feature new and improved animations.
Rise of Ronin’s showcase
Rise of Shonin, a work of the famous Team Ninja, the folks behind titles like Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Aline and Nioh will be released on 22nd of March. The trailer gave us a sneak peek at the open hub world of Yokohama as well as one-on-one sword combat and parry system in the game. Players mostly rely on these strategies, along with blocking to get the edge when fighting and traversal, which is via grapple hook, horse and even a glider.
Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade is an upcoming game from developer Shift Up and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and will be coming out on April 26, 2024. The main setup of the game takes place in an apocalyptic Earth where a mysterious new enemy called the Naytibas has forced humans to flee Earth and settle in an off-world city of Xion. The main character Eve, and her two companions Adam And Lily work to destroy enemies and hostile survivors on an anarchical planet.
Free Games To Play
PlayStation subscribers have a surprise in store: they can expect free PS Plus games to be released on the Wednesday of every month.
Foam Stars
It was previously confirmed that Foamstars is one of the free PS Plus games for February 2024. Foamstars is a new bizarre multiplayer game from Square Enix that focuses on 4v4 battles. It allows players to use foam to build terrain, creating slippery surfaces to surf around at high speeds and defend against enemy attacks.
Rollerdrome
Roll7 has yet again proved itself to be one of the best studios out there, with a third-person high-speed shooter-skater hybrid experience. The game is brutally bloody, with visceral combat scenes and kills, that reward one with health and ammunition.
Steel Rising
Set in Paris during the French Revolution era, a robotic army fights its way through the streets, exploring rooftops, neighbourhoods and castles like Aegis in this action RPG.

State of Play went beyond individual titles, showcasing PlayStation’s broader vision:

Other announcements At PlayStation State Of Play
Aside from these, the State of Play also has a bunch of other announcements. For starters, there is a new VR game based on the Metro series of games. Called Metro Awakening, the game will be available on PS VR2 and is set before the events of Metro 2033. The game will be released later this year, and it will put players in the shoes of a doctor searching the metro tunnels to find his wife.
Other notable announcements include a trailer for Dragon’s Dogma 2 which was released by Capcom, expected to be out on March 2022. Zenless Zone Zero is Hoyoverse’s newest game, and it’s in development for PlayStation 5.
Some more games were Sonic X Shadow Generations, Dave the Diver, V Rising, Zenless Zone Zero and Legendary Tales.
