Formerly worked as an accountant, Bob Newhart stepped in the world of entertainment and gave a banger hit with his comedy album in 1960s and later starred in a number of fabled CBS sitcoms.

Newhart, the beloved and brilliant stand-up performer whose droll and deadpan humor showcased his talent on various sitcoms vaulted him the ranks of history’s greatest comedians, died Thursday morning. He was 94.

Bob won Grammy Grammy Awards for album of the year and best new artist for his 1960 breakthrough record. The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, died at his home in Los Angeles following series of short illness as disclosed by his publicist Jerry Digney.

The former accountant Bob Newhart won an Emmy Award for guest starring for his role as Arthur Jeffries (alias Professor Proton, former host of a children’s science show) on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

The Bob Newhart Show would become one of the most loved and popular CBS sitcoms of all time and featured a supporting cast including Suzanne Pleshette, Peter Bonerz, Marcia Wallace, Bill Daily and Jack Riley among them.

Newhart ended the series in 1978 with around 142 episodes, yet no Emmy nomination for his work and the show. But he was back CBS in 1982 to front another MTM comedy.

In Newhart, He featured as Dick Loudon, a New York author turned proprietor of the Stratford Inn in Vermont. The show was mainstay for eight seasons because of its fabulous cast including Mary Frann, Tom Poston — who later would marry Pleshette — Julia Duffy, Peter Scolari and, as handymen “Larry, Darryl and their other brother Darryl,” William Sanderson, Tony Papenfuss and John Voldstad.

He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 1992.
