Sophie Turner And Joe Jonas

The whirlwind romance of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas took the world by storm. In no time, the celebrity couple became a fan and paparazzi favourite. The couple started dating officially in December 2016 but kept things quite hush-shush. It was finally made public in 2017 when Joe Jonas took to Instagram to post a photo.

They announced their engagement after a year of being together. Their abrupt last-minute wedding occurred in Las Vegas at the famous A Little White Wedding Chapel just a few hours after the Billboard Music Awards. Diplo live-streamed the event on his Instagram, Dan + Shay played music, and they said their vows with Ring Pop wedding rings. This was in May of 2019. Their opulent official ceremony took place in Paris. The couple also has two beautiful daughters together.

Merely after Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie Turner in September 2023 after four years of marriage, after nearly 6 months of relationship challenges, Jonas filed for divorce in Miami on September 5, citing in court documents that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”

Here is a detailed timeline of the once-celebrated Game of Thrones star and DNCE musician couple’s fractured legal timeline.

Late ’22:

Early rumours of the relationship turning sour began floating around at the end of 2022. Reports of the couple living separately created a ton of buzz on online forums. The couple was living apart most of the summer, which later served as a shock for fans. The family had been based in Florida, with Jonas away with the kids on tours most of the time, while Sophie worked in U.K. The divorce didn’t come as joke for people close to the ex-couple.

December ‘22:

In a bid to solidify their future, the couple reportedly decided to make England their permanent home. They sold their Miami mansion and embarked on house-hunting in the English countryside, hinting at a desire for a fresh start.

Some speculate that the relocation plan was motivated by less amicable reasons. Sophie Turner, a British native, might have desired a return to her roots and a more stable foundation for raising their two young daughters, Willa and D.

September 5, ’23:

Jonas filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. Jonas has supposedly reached out to lawyers and a source claims he has been responsible for the kids the last few months while on tour as Turner films in London.

They did have a prenup. According to their prenup agreement, the Sucker singer has reportedly requested that a judge create a parenting plan that ensures frequent and continuing contact with both parties.

September 7, ’23:

On September 7, Jonas and Sophie Turner finally confirmed their separation in a joint statement on Instagram. They stated, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy.”

September 20, ’23: Sophie sues Joe, claiming their children are being wrongfully detained

Sophie Turner retaliated swiftly with a lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court. The accusations are serious – she alleged “wrongful retention” of their two daughters, Willa (3) and D. (1), claiming the singer took the children to Los Angeles without her consent and refused to return them.

The court documents claim, “The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.” (Jonas’s attorney reportedly confirmed to Turner’s team on September 19 that, not only will he not hand over the passports, he is also withholding consent for his daughters to move to England.)

October 10, ’23: Interim custody Arrangement

A temporary custody agreement is reached through a tense mediation session. The children will spend two weeks with each parent, alternating custody every two weeks.

The two agreed to have daughters Willa, three, and Delphine, one, stay with Turner from October 9 to 21, during which time they will be allowed to travel to England and throughout the United States. Afterwards, Turner or the children’s nanny will take the kids to Jonas, whom they will remain with until November 2 and who retains the same travel permissions. From there, the girls will return to Turner until November 22, head back to Jonas until December 16, and then switch again to Turner’s care until January 7.

The deadline for the mediation status report passed without an official announcement. The lack of news leaves the future of permanent custody arrangements uncertain.
