Frostpunk 2 beta begins next week, but only if you bought the expensive digital deluxe edition

It’s a common tactic used by corporations these days; to lock certain content and/or privileges behind paywalls that you’ll either require you to fork over some cash or wait for a few months before a game goes on sale. The Frostpunk 2 beta situation is no exception to this current trend.

Developer 11 bit Studios announced through X (formerly Twitter) that anyone who buys the digital deluxe edition of their upcoming city-building survival game will get access to the Frostpunk 2 beta when it’s available next week from April 15-22 at 7 P.M. (CEST)/1 P.M. (EDT)/10 A.M. (PDT). The beta will be available on Steam and the digital deluxe edition is currently discounted by ten percent.

What is Frostpunk 2?

Picking up 30 years on from the first outing, Frostpunk 2 once again makes you the leader of your city. You decide what districts to build, what laws need to be passed, and which factions to cater to and side with, all of whom are vying for your cooperation and have their own agendas/visions for your city’s future as you work to ensure the city doesn’t crumble and succumb to the harsh cold.

Co-director and design director Jakub Stokalski said that through social differences, the city will go into turmoil, with new threats stemming from said turmoil as a result. The story will also be centered on the theme of human ambition and how human nature can be the cause of our deaths.

A standard version and a digital deluxe version can be pre-ordered on Steam as of writing. Frostpunk 2 is set to release on July 25 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
