What do we know about Shangri-La Frontier season 2?

A trailer for Shangri-La Frontier season 2 was released through the anime’s official YouTube channel. The second season is slated for release in October this year and will run for two consecutive cours (i.e., 26 episodes long). The release of the second season trailer coincides with the final episode of the first season, which is airing today. Anime streaming service Crunchyroll will have the second season’s episodes available on its website for fans to watch.

The first season of Shangri-La Frontier adapted the first few arcs of the manga, up until the Ether Reactor arc (around 70 chapters). As such, the next season could likely end up adapting the series up until either the GGC arc or the Abyssal City arc (Part Two). This is purely speculation and no official confirmation has been given at this time. An image celebrating Shangri-La Frontier season 2 was released to commemorate the announcement of the anime received more episodes.

What is Shangri-La Frontier?

Shangri-La Frontier began life as a webnovel series written by author Katarina on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s be Novelists) website back in 2017. In 2020, with Ryosuke Fuji as the illustrator, the series began being adapted into manga and started appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump.

After finishing and mastering yet another kusoge (a poorly made game), main character Rakuro decides to switch things up by playing a title that’s actually good.

He purchases Shangri-La Frontier, a popular game with millions of players singing its praises, having grown exhausted from playing bad games. Using the tips, tricks, and skills he acquired in earlier kusoge, Rakuro (going by his in-game name Sunraku) soon begins to thrive in his new game as he seeks to uncover everything his new game has to offer and encounter some friendly and unfriendly faces along the way.
