Fallout 4 next gen update dropping on April 25 for PC, consoles as surprise for fans

Now that the Fallout TV series is here, Bethesda is dropping the long-awaited Fallout 4 next gen update on later this month.

The Fallout TV show is finally here and as a treat for wasteland wanderers, Bethesda has announced that Fallout 4 will be receiving all-new next gen versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while the PC gets a major update. There’s also more content being added to the game.

First off, the update will bring The Enclave into Fallout 4. The new quest, “Echoes of the Past,” will involve players putting a stop to The Enclave’s plans of spreading their ideology and establishing themselves in the commonwealth. A makeshift weapon pack will also be accessible and includes wacky weapons like a nail gun, a piggy bank, and a baseball launcher. That’s not all, as a Halloween workshop will also allow festive players to decorate their settlement with 38 new spooky decorations. New Creation Club items are also getting added: Enclave armor and weapon skins, a Tesla Cannon, Hellfire and the X-02 Power Armor, and the Heavy Incinerator will soon be dropped into the shop.

PC improvements

PC players will soon be able to play the game with widescreen and ultra widescreen support, with the update also containing quest updates and Creation Kit fixes. Users who own the Steam, Microsoft Windows, or GOG versions will be getting mods, bug fixes, and stability updates. Not only that, Bethesda.net login problems have been solved for Japanese and Chinese language players and their access to mods has also been fixed. Bethesda will also be dropping Fallout 4 onto the Epic Games Store (where most of the other Fallout games were free for a short time) and they’ll be making the game Steam Deck verified.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions

The upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Fallout 4 will come equipped with performance and quality mode settings, stability fixes and improvements, and 60 FPS with superior resolutions. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will also get an update that includes fixes to quests and improvements to the game’s stability. Previously, Bethesda also made PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Skyrim and even dropped a 10th-anniversary update for it back in 2021 (because Skyrim is Bethesda’s biggest cash cow and they’ll keep making new versions for new consoles, never letting it die).

Possible remasters

This probably won’t be the only new version of old Bethesda games that we’ll be getting. Back in 2023, leaked Microsoft documents showed that remasters of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3 were projects that Bethesda was working on. There was also an ESRB rating issued for Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition earlier on February 29, 2024. Players have speculated that this rating was issued because of the Fallout Anthology, which bundles every major Fallout release into one nuke-shaped package.

Those leaks also said that The Elder Scrolls VI was going to be an Xbox exclusive. However, given that four Xbox games (Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded) have made their way to PlayStation, it’s possible that the sixth Elder Scrolls game may also end up coming to Sony’s console sometime in the future (this is pure speculation and has not been supported/confirmed by any sources). For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if Bethesda announces anything else in celebration of Fallout getting a TV show.
