Netflix documentary “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal” reveals celebrity names in cheating hack

Netflix is well prepared to cover Ashley Madison, the infamous dating website for people seeking extra marital affair, and its alleged hack in 2015 which destroyed number of families including celebrity ones.

The Ashley Madison documentary, now streaming, sets to unveil the rise and subsequent fall of the dating website specifically designed for married couple. The website was going great but came to a standstill when unknown hackers leaked over 30 million users’ private information. It wreaked havoc on a number of families including celebrities such as Josh Duggar and Hunter Biden.

Documentary director Toby Paton told The New York Post, “It’s a fascinating aspect of the whole story. The cyber expert that we speak to said it’s extremely unusual to have a sophisticated and high-profile [hack] and have the person who did it have never done anything before and never do anything since. It really seemed like it was a one-off.”

He further added that he believes the culprit was connected to Ashley Madison, “and had some kind of inside knowledge of how the company worked. But beyond that, I really don’t think anybody knows.” “Whoever did it has done an extraordinarily good job of keeping their head down.”

Hunter Biden

Hunter Biden said in a statement to CNN, “I am certain that the account in question is not mine, This account was clearly set up by someone else without my knowledge and I first learned about the account in question from the media.”

In his statement, Biden said he stopped using email address that was used to set up account on ashleymadison.com. He believes that website do not require any verification from the part of user and that means anyone can register from any email address even if they do not administrate the address.

Josh Duggar

When Josh Duggar, convicted on child pornography charges and father to 19 kids and counting, name revealed in a 2015 hack, he then issued a public apology and admitted cheating her spouse.

He said in a statement to the CNN, “I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife. I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.”

Josh Taekman

Josh Taekman is the husband of “Real Housewives of New York City” star Kristen Taekman. He said in statement at the time of leak, “I signed up for the site foolishly and ignorantly with a group of friends and I deeply apologize for any embarrassment or pain I have brought to my wife and family. We both look forward to moving past this and getting on with our lives.” 

Years later, Kristen Taekman addressed the people saying, “I have to say, I’m very proud of our relationship and I think we’ve come a long way, We are stronger than ever. Maybe I’m back to prove everybody wrong and break all those silly myths about ‘Housewives” marriages, because despite what everyone probably thought, we’re still happily married.”

Sam Rader, an YouTuber, is the only high-profile star to appear in the Netflix Ashley Madison documentary and answer questions about his experience and Ashley Madison website. In documentary, he’ll answer how he signed up on the website to cheat his wife Nia.

As Paton told The New York Post, “I wasn’t expecting it to be quite as hard as it was [to find people willing to talk], given that that was nine years ago. A lot of people whose names were revealed [in the 2015 hack] would have either repaired [their relationships] or their marriages would have ended. So I thought, with that much water under the bridge, it would be easier than it was to find people who were willing to come on and talk.”

Is Ashley Madison still around?

In 2016, Avid Life Media rebranded as Ruby Corp. and appointed Rob Segal as CEO and Josh Millership as President. As per reports by Business Insider, The duo strengthened the cybersecurity of the dating website. Employed Deloitte for auditing purpose and removed all the fake female bots with changing their tagline from “Life is short. Have an affair” to “Find your moment.”

Rob Segal said in a statement, “It was a limiting label that was outdated and doesn’t speak to the wide variety of connections people find on Ashley Madison. In 2016, Ashley Madison must grow, change and adapt to modern sexuality while staying true to our roots.
