What the Silent Hill 2 ESRB rating means
The ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) just released an M rating for Bloober Team’s remake, with the game including sexual themes, blood, gore, and violence, which is appropriate given what that this is a Silent Hill game. Concerning violence, player can get violent with guns and knives, using them to eliminate any humans and monsters that get in the way.
Combat is described as being realistic and environments will have bloodstains/organs/intestines on floors and/or walls, with dead bodies nearby. Characters will also be seen getting impaled, suffocated with a pillow, and some enemies will have their body parts sewn together. Certain dialogue will also imply sexual assault/misconduct.
In the gaming industry, when a game receives an ESRB rating, that usually implies that developers are ready to show a release date trailer in the near future to hype up fans. As of writing, no such trailer or release date has been announced by Bloober Team.
What is Silent Hill 2?
Silent Hill 2 follows James Sunderland, who buried his wife three years ago after she passed away from a terminal illness. Sometime after her passing, he receives a letter from her instructing him to go to Silent Hill, the town where they once had a vacation. What follows is a dark odyssey as James comes to realize why he’s in Silent Hill as he fights the horrific creatures that dwell in the town.
It was released back in 2001 and it seems like nearly everyone today agrees that this is one of, if not the, greatest horror games ever made.
