New Overwatch hero Venture digs into Overwatch 2, season 10 premiering on April 16

The new Overwatch hero: Venture

The official Overwatch 2 YouTube channel has released a trailer featuring Venture, a new damage hero that uses a Smart Excavator (a drill/gun hybrid weapon) to move around as well as damage enemies.

The trailer showcases the new Overwatch hero using a jetpack to boost towards her targets, as well as using her weapon to burrow underground to both avoid being damaged and push enemies off of ledges. Venture can use her Drill Dash to blast forward and pierce her target and her weapon can also shoot grenades.

Her passive ability gives her temporary shield and quick melee attacks dish out higher damage. Her ultimate attack is Tectonic Shock, which unleashes a shockwave towards her enemies. Players can test her out this weekend (March 28-31) during a free trial before, before she gets permanently added to the game when season 10 begins.

The video description explains that Venture is a “spirited archeologist” with a “spunky personality”, who is ready to use her abilities to damage the enemy’s team with her shockwaves. First seen back at BlizzCon 2023, Venture was confirmed to be the game’s first non-binary hero.

A tease for season 10 was also shown in her trailer, with the new Overwatch hero gazing in awe at what appears to be a giant robotic statue of the Egyptian god Anubis. The new season is scheduled to begin on April 16.

The Overwatch X Cowboy Bebop collab

Before Venture’s debut, Overwatch 2 had a crossover with the Cowboy Bebop series. Playable characters Cassidy, Ashe, Sombra, Mauga, and Wrecking Ball received skins resembling Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine, Ed, Jet Black, and Ein, respectively. The new skins debuted on March 12.

What is Overwatch 2?

Hitting the gaming scene back in 2022, before making its full release a year later, Overwatch 2 is a 5v5, free-to-play hero shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Players take on the role of various classes (damage heroes, tank heroes, and support heroes) to help their teammates to win in the various game modes Overwatch 2 offers. Coordination between players is necessary, alongside using each hero’s unique list of abilities to maximize their efficiency.

The original Overwatch is the reason hero shooters have skyrocketed into popularity today and Blizzard continues to announce and insert new heroes into the game to keep reeling players back in for more content and player engagement.
