Assassin’s Creed Codename Red title changed to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, world premiere trailer dropping May 15

Being able to play as an assassin in Japan has been something AC fans have wanted for a long time and they got to do that thanks to… Ghost of Tsushima (should’ve been faster, Ubisoft). However, weebs everywhere can rejoice knowing the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will be dropping this week, allowing them to get a first glimpse at the game they’ve been begging for so long.

Ubisoft has scheduled May 15 to drop the world premiere trailer for the game, with the upcoming video’s description stating that Assassin’s Creed Codename Red’s title has been modified to be called Assassin’s Creed Shadows (no relation to the Sonic the Hedgehog character).

The open-world game developer uploaded an X (formerly Twitter) post that notified AC fans of the title change, with an attached video showing the game being advertised in Japan. So far, Ubisoft hasn’t revealed what platforms the game will be dropping on, but the Ubisoft Store listing data for the game says the game will be sneaking onto the PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S (no big surprise there). The data listing mentions a PS4 version as well, however, some have said that this will not be the case.

The Ubisoft Store page for the game also has a crimson image with various numbers on it. At this time, it isn’t known what these numbers are referring to or mean. The store page data also says there will be different editions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows just like many of their previous releases.

There’ll probably be a standard edition with the base game included, a deluxe edition with a few bonuses, a gold edition with even more content, and an ultimate edition with the game and immediate access to all the content that will be released in the future. They’ve done this with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws, so why not here (because corporations like money and want more, that’s why)?

Possible (but unconfirmed) appearances at showcases

    summer game fest 2024

It wouldn’t be surprising if Assassin’s Creed Shadows snuck its way into the Summer Game Fest showcase since tons of new video games get announced and/or shown off to the gaming public to build up hype for their eventual release.

Another showcase that comes to mind would be the Ubisoft Forward showcase that’s going down on June 10 this year (got to announce your games somehow, right?). It also wouldn’t be a huge shock if Ubisoft used the publicity from their world premiere trailer to bring in a good number of viewers so that they can give Assassin’s Creed Shadows more time in the spotlight, thereby getting more people hyped up for the game.

It hasn’t been confirmed if Assassin’s Creed Shadow will be at either showcase next month, but that won’t stop fans from tuning in to check if it’s being featured or not, given that they’ve been asking for this game for god knows how long. Besides this, there’s also Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, which will involve a female Assassin using witchcraft during the 16th-century witch trials (spooky), and Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, an upcoming mobile AC game that’s set in third-century China.
