The Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League trial

For whatever reason only God knows, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been given a PS Plus Game Trial. If you have access to PlayStation Plus Premium, you’ll be able to play the game for three hours before you’ll be asked to fork over cash for the full version. The save data will be carried into the full version of Kill the Justice League, but I’m certain you’ll delete it after the trial ends.

If you’ve got no clue as to what I’m talking about, PlayStation Plus can be likened to a Netflix subscription, but blue and yellow instead of black and red (and it’s for PlayStation). In exchange, you’ll be able to play multiplayer modes in games, have access to cloud storage to store your precious save data (for games you actually like), and be able to play monthly PS Plus games without having to pay for them, among other sweet benefits. It’s got three tiers, with there also being PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, the latter of which gives you the most benefits but also has the highest cost (good thing the other tiers are cheaper).

These subscribers also get to play Game Trials, where they can play through a game for a couple of hours (usually) to see if it’s worth buying. Think of it like test-driving a car and seeing if you like the way it handles on the road. You can also earn Trophies when playing through Game Trails (if that’s what you’re into).

What is Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League?

Remember the Batman Arkham series of games that Rocksteady developed? This is a spin-off set in that universe. The story involves the Justice League being mind-controlled by cosmic bad guy Brainiac and G-woman Amanda Waller is sending in four villains to clean up this mess: Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, King Shark, and Harley Quinn. It’s up to these good bad guys to kill the bad good guys and save the world from Brainiac. Players are dropped into Superman’s home turf of Metropolis and can partner up with any other poor souls who bought the game thinking it was going to be good.

Most people loathed the fact that Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is a live-service experience. On top of that, this is one of the final times Kevin Conroy (the Batman voice actor who played Gotham’s vengeful son in the previous Arkham games and in Batman: the Animated Series) got to voice Bruce Wayne’s rodent-themed alter ego. Conroy managed to record lines for this game before he died from intestinal cancer back in 2022. Given how poorly his character (as well as other characters) is depicted in this game, fans were livid with Rocksteady.

Rocksteady is bringing in new content through in-game seasons (the first one is Joker-themed), but a lot of fans aren’t coming back because of how bad it is. Gotham Knights, another DC game that wasn’t warmly received by gamers, has a higher player count than this game. As of writing, Kill the Justice League has less than 200 players that are currently playing it on Steam. There’s also a new VR Batman Arkham game that’s in the works, but fans are angry that they’re not getting a traditional third-person game like the previous entries were.
