The best games if you like League of Legends

Chances are you’re an avid fan of Netflix’s Arcane and/or the League of Legends (LoL) game and you’re looking for games similar to what you enjoy. If that’s the case, you’ve come to the right place.

And for those of you who don’t know what LoL is, it’s a team-based multiplayer game that involves you invading turf controlled by the enemy and blowing up their Nexus (AKA their home base). Multiple characters can be chosen to fit specific roles (tank, healer, DPS, etc.) and can be leveled up mid-match by players, with teamwork being needed to make the dream work. If you’ve gotten tired of playing LoL or are just looking for something similar since the actual game isn’t your cup of tea, Newzertainment has you covered.

1. DOTA 2

DOTA 2

Like League of Legends, DOTA 2 is also a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game where you can pick from a selection of over 100 characters to control and use their powers. It’s also a real-time strategy game, so bumrushing enemy forces isn’t exactly going to work out well for you and your amigos.

Your team plays against another team and your end goal is to blow up their Ancient (AKA their base) by invading their territory, avoiding attacks from enemy defense towers, using gold to buy useful items, and dealing with whatever the other team throws at you. DOTA 2 is the most similar game to League of Legends on this list, so if you want something similar to LoL, but don’t want to leave your comfort zone is still a bit different, try this.

2. Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2

If you like working with a squad to get things done but also enjoy shooting guns, getting into firefights and/or superheroes, Overwatch 2 is for you. Like League of Legends, there are various characters players can choose from, and working together is paramount to success across all game modes. Since Overwatch 2 is also a shooter, things are a lot more fast-paced, so quick reflexes and good aim will save your skin pretty much all the time.

Using certain abilities will also turn the tide of battle, like Mei blocking off entrances with ice or Sombra hacking enemies, making them take more damage, so picking the right hero for a match is crucial. Overwatch 2 also gets regular updates with new heroes to play as, so there’s always a reason to come back and see what’s new.

3. World of Warcraft

World of warcraft

If you’d rather create your own special snowflake of a character and play as them in a fantasy world, then welcome to World of Warcraft (WoW). Hope you have plenty of free time after you’ve spent god knows how long making your character because it’ll be spent on PvP combat and finishing a plethora of quests, not to mention exploring the incredibly large in-game world the MMORPG provides. Since WoW is two decades old, there’s also tons of content for you to sink your teeth into through expansions like Shadowlands, Legion, Mists of Pandaria, etc.

Not only that, there are mighty raid bosses that you won’t be able to beat, not all by yourself. Joining forces with other players is critical for slaying these monstrously powerful entities and earning some sweet loot to show off.

4. StarCraft

Starcraft

If you’re strategic and enjoy sci-fi, StarCraft is our recommendation. You can choose to be in control of the Protoss, the Zerg (both aliens), or humans (AKA Terrans), each having their pros and cons when it comes to how they duke it out on the battlefield.

Just like League of Legends, you need to destroy all enemy-controlled bases to win the day. To get this done, you’ll have access to various units and decide on where to go and what to do in real-time, but it’s just you deciding what happens next instead of teammates who think they know better and don’t listen to you. If you think you’re good at StarCraft, you can also play multiplayer matches and see whether or not you’ll get stomped by others who’ve got a lot more experience under their belt.

5. Diablo (but not Diablo 4)

Diablo

The Spanish word for “devil,” as well as the name of an awesome RPG series where you slay a vast number of hellspawn. Flying solo is an option if you don’t have any friends and as with many RPGs, there are multiple classes one can choose from to best suit their playstyle, like having the dead do your dirty work for you as a necromancer or keeping demons at a distance using the Demon Hunter’s ranged attacks. On top of that, there’s also plenty of loot to plunder, bosses to slay, and deciding on what skills you should invest in.

You should go with either Diablo 1, 2, or 3, but don’t buy Diablo 4. The fourth entry has been reviled by players for having multiple glaring issues that detract from the experience (being online only, monetization elements like battlepasses and microtransactions, etc.). As such, don’t buy Diablo 4 if you’re looking for the real Diablo experience.
