It’s nearly been two weeks since the May the 4th celebration for Star Wars and it looks like fans are getting a little more content thanks to a blast from the past coming to Sony consoles.

The Star Wars: The Clone Wars PS2 coming to PS5 and PS4

As spotted by Gemtasu through PS Deals (a PlayStation Store game discount tracking website), an old Star Wars game, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (not to be confused with the CGI animated series) will be arriving via Republic gunship on the PlayStation Store on June 11. It’s believed that this game will be part of the Classics Catalog of games (old titles being ported to PS5 and PS4 and available to PS Plus subscribers) that will be arriving in that month.

The Clone Wars will see you stepping into the robes of Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi to stop the Separatists from “reassembling an ancient Sith weapon of mass annihilation” (sounds dangerous). The game will come with 16 missions set across six worlds and will pick up where Episode II left off. Also included are four multiplayer modes: king-of-the-hill, co-op endurance, team-based strategy, and deathmatch, with two players being able to play offline multiplayer games.

The game was made by Pandemic Studios, who were also responsible for developing the old Star Wars Battlefront games before EA, in their infinite wisdom, shut them down.

The new features and old PS2 game ports

In the past, games ported from the PS2 only had a PS4 version, however, it seems The Clone Wars will have both a PS5 and a PS4 version. Not only that, the page on PS Deals says there will be new features: rewinding gameplay, quick saves, custom video filters, and up-rendering.

Other PS2 games ported to Sony’s newer consoles never had any of the features, but rewinding gameplay and quick saves have popped up in several other games that have been ported over from the PSP and PS1. Given that these features are now being added to a PS2 game, some believe that this is a sign that Sony has improved itself in regards to emulating old games on their new hardware because they’ve got a new PS2 emulator.

So far, there haven’t been mentions of any other PS2 games with these features, but since The Clone Wars is getting these new bells and whistles, it wouldn’t be shocking to see more old games coming to the PS Plus Classics Catalog with said features tossed in before they’re played by subscribers.

There have also been rumors that a PlayStation Showcase is scheduled to happen later this month. It’s possible (but unconfirmed) that Sony may talk about having a new PS2 emulator and the features it adds to old PS2 games. Sony President Hiroki Totoki recently wrote a message that said we’ll “learn more about the long-term vision for Sony Group and the essential role SIE plays in that vision” later this month (SIE: Sony Interactive Entertainment). This could be a tease for that rumored PlayStation Showcase.
